March 2007
The Beta Theta Chapter of the Sigma Chi
Fraternity has grown by leaps and bounds. With the
initiation of twenty-one great Brothers from the Fall
'06 pledge class the Beta Theta chapter of Sigma Chi has
regained its position as the largest Greek Organization
on campus. Brother Mike Baron has six new pledges under
his guidance and we hope to initiate into the Fraternity
as the Winter Class of '07.
Brother Paul Platko has been putting much
time and effort into Derby Days enlisting help from many
fellow Brothers in order to make this springs Derby Days
the biggest and best series of events to raise money for
charities on campus. Our Chapter Advisor Fred Boutros
has been working hard with the Brotherhood and the
Housing Corps to get renovations on the house started.
Also with the help of many senior Brothers the Million
Dollar Endowment plan which we hope to have in place for
our chapter's 100th anniversary in 2009 has
gotten a great start. This Endowment will be used to
provide many different things most likely including
scholarships for brothers as well as tutoring,
education, and additional leadership programs in
addition to all of the great programs offered by Sigma
Chi International.

September
2006 It's
been a big year for the Beta Theta chapter. This fall,
under the instruction of Matthew Solfanelli, 2006, 21
new brothers were initiated into the chapter. Justin
Calugar, 2006, picked up where Matt left off in the
Spring, and helped guide six more fine gentlemen into
brotherhood. The chapter also did very well in Pitt's
Greek Week competition, receiving recognition and awards
in nearly every category. And Chapter Advisor Fred
Boutros was voted advisor of the year.
This year we're off to a great start.
Rush went great, and 26 fine young men signed bids. John
Giarratano, 2008, is Magister this fall and has prepared
a great pledge program for the new pledges. We look
forward to initiating these new men into Sigma Chi and
to the many events we have planned this fall, including
Homecoming and the annual Gateway Clipper cruise.
